AP Lit. & Comp. Exam: Wed. May 4, 2016 –those taking the test will receive a 1-point weighted grade in the class
1. Multiple Choice (45%): You will have 1 hour to answer 55 questions that determine your ability to analyze 2-3 prose passages and 2-3 poems. There is no penalty for incorrect answers.

2. Free-Response Essays (55%): You will write 3 separate essays within 2 hours
? Poetry – You will analyze a given poem and explain how a poet employs poetic techniques to further convey meaning based on a prompt.

? Prose (Passage)– You will analyze a passage from a given novel, short story, or play and respond to the prompt provided. You will explain how the author employs literary techniques to develop character, setting or another element of the text based on the prompt.

? Open – You will choose a novel or play that you have read well and analyze it in response to a prompt provided. A list of suggested literary works is provided, but it is not mandatory that you choose from it.

3. Scoring
Essays are graded on a scale of 1 to 9, 9 being the best. All parts of the exam are combined determine your overall score on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best. A 3 is considered passing, but some institutions only accept a 4 or 5.
