Take Home/Communication Folder

In the front of the folder your child will be bringing home graded work, notes from me, and/ or notes from the school.  This folder should be checked, papers sent home removed and returned daily. This will ensure that your child is able to stay organized and not lose important papers.

Homework will be assigned everyday. Short written assignments, nightly reading (to be recorded on your reading log), as well as math home links will be given during the week. Parents are required to sign the assignment notebook nightly. It is also important that your child study their spelling words. Please remind your child that spelling words are not given just to be tested on Friday, these words will assist your child in reading and writing. Math home links will be assigned each night, it is important that you assist your child with these home links. These home links are a review of the day’s lesson and you should encourage your child to verbalize their learning with you. The family newsletter contains important information about the lessons (including the answers). This is an important piece of information; I encourage parents to refer to it if they have questions. Home Links will be checked and reviewed daily and may be taken for a math grade.

Homework is due back to the teacher the day after it is assigned.

Snacks and Water Bottles

Each afternoon, around mid-afternoon, we will have a time where your child may have a snack. Please feel free to pack your child an “easy to manage” healthy snack. I do request that you avoid sending snacks such as potato chips or chocolate. I also request that these snacks be snacks your child can open. If you are sending fruit, please cut up the fruit for your child. Please feel free to send a water bottle on warm days. I request that these be “easy to manage” and not distracting to your child.  I ask that you only send in water.   If you do not send in a snack I will assume that you do not want your child to have one. Students may refill their water from my water cooler, I ask that if you would like your child to use the water cooler, that you donate money to refill the water.

 Dismissal Notes

If you are planning to pick up your child, please write a note and put it in your child’s take home folder. It is your child’s responsibility to turn the note in at the beginning of the day.

 Lunch Money

If your child is planning on buying lunch and needs to add money to their account please make sure their money is labeled with their name and account number. Your child needs to turn in the money in the morning to ease the line in the cafeteria. It is also your child’s responsibility to memorize their account number; this too will help ease the wait in line.

In accordance with school policy should you choose to take a vacation all work is due upon your child’s return to school. You must provide notice to the school in writing.

 Scholastic Book Orders

At various times throughout the year, usually monthly, you will receive Scholastic Book orders. These provide an excellent and an inexpensive way to purchase books for your child. Every book that you order earns our classroom bonus points towards books for our classroom library. Please send a check with your order. Please pay attention to the return date on the order form.

Classroom volunteers add to the success of every child!  Volunteers sign up was located at Open House, if you are still interested, please let me know.
