  The Second Semester Begins

As we begin the second semester, please take the time to read about the changes being made in the classroom.

Please keep checking and signing your child's assignment book daily including Fridays. This is part of your child's class participation grade by completing his/her homework assignment. This is an excellent way to know what is happening in the classroom. You may still write questions and comments for me to answer or clarify in the book.

For the third nine weeks, a few grading changes will be made. One point will still be deducted for every third grade level word spelled incorrectly or copied incorrectly. If your child forgets his/her name 5 points will be deducted from the final score. Forgetting names on papers still a big problem for this class. Late work will also loses five points for each day. At the end of the nine weeks, the paper will receive a "0" in the grade book. Please remember, your child may NOT correct their paper and improve their grade to a "C " for the rest of the school year. This is to prepare them better for fourth grade standards and expectations.

In spelling, your child will be asked to rewrite all misspelled words 5 times on spelling assignments. This will provide better practice. If your child receives a 100% on his/her test, they will be allowed to skip one spelling assignment the following week.

In reading, the children will continue reading books and stories in class with the teacher, by themselves or in groups.

Next, the students are finding the water machine to be a very important part of the classroom.  Any donation to keep the water coming would be greatly appreciated. Donations in the form of money are greatly appreciated.  Donations of “Dixie” cups are also very helpful. Any help I know would be greatly appreciated by students and me.
